SAVE HISTORIC ST. ANDREWS CHURCH FROM DEMOLITION! DEADLINE 2PM MONDAY JULY 22
St Andrews church in Como Park, St. Paul meets all historic designation criteria, being a beautiful colorful example of the Romanesque Revival style, as well as the favorite creation of renowned local architect Charles Hausler, raised with funds supplied by and constructed by immigrant families at the turn of the last century.
A public charter with a history of moving locations, now wants to expand once more, demolishing the landmark structure, currently used as a gym and cafeteria, for a new gym and cafeteria. The St Paul City council has granted the demolition, as well charter height and parking variances for the small lot in a close knit neighborhood, overriding the wishes of the MN State and US Federal Historic Registries as well as the Saint Paul School district, which states the charter is egregious in adding to segregation in the city by drawing 90% of its student body from wealthy suburbs outside St Paul.
A judge has found that the city erred and should have designated St Andrews as an historic site worthy of protection, however, the judge also gave the neighborhood society only 1 WEEK to raise 2 million dollars to stay demolition. The money will only pay out in case the neighborhood association loses its case. Almost half the money has already been raised!

Everyone having a good december so far? It's been really nice at DW lately, I've forgotten how nice it is to get comments on art without having to search reblogs for tags on tumblr!
Right now I'm working on my patreon rewards, http://patreon.com/karadin I made the Gift Wrapped Steve artwork in two versions, nice and naughty, and I designed a christmas stocking ornament. I had the illustration printed on fabric at Spoonflower, and now I'm just waiting on my first yard to sew into stockings that will be reversible, nice Steeb features on the outside, but you can turn the stocking inside out and feature naughty Steve if you are being bold!
For right now only patrons can get the stockings, as well as a fluffy minky blanket with nice and naughty Gift Wrapped Steve on each side, and gift cards that are blank inside, with envelopes and matching seals.
Glad to see all of you following from the debacle that is tumblr, most of my art has already come down from that site, alas, even though it met the site's TOS.

I baked scones, the quiche is in the oven, I went outside and picked lily of the valley (my fave flower) that grows along the west side of my house that the original owner planted.

When I first got out of college and was working toward a career as an illustrator, I was concerned about ‘what would sell.’ And believe me, i had a ton of suggestions from friends and family and teachers and clients, but what I liked to draw were male pinups.
Fast forward fifteen years, to when I’m getting invited to show at feminist sci-fi conventions. While people assume that the largest audience I sell to is gay men, it’s women who buy more than anyone else. My spouse sighs at ‘more naked guys’ but a) they sell and b) - more importantly, I love to draw them, and it’s not a difficultly to think up different designs and at the same time push my abilities forward with anatomy or background or coloring, etc.

I hated ‘wristing’ for other companies as a day job as an artist, I had no mental creative energy to do my own work, so I found jobs doing design-related work, like interiors, floral design, a production designer, and now I work in an art gallery .
Now at this gallery i met an artist who makes fairy wings, (x) and the people at the gallery scoffed at what she makes (and what I make too to be honest, not in a mean way, but you know, thinking we could use our obvious skills to do more ‘serious’ work) but Doo said to me, “I used to make all kinds of art, I did the art crawls, the shows, and nothing sold, but I make the wings and people LOVE them.” She has a shop out at our Renaissance Fair and can make enough in a summer to live on all year, and she just branched out to the Pride Festival.
She tells me I could sell a ton at the Ren Fest too, but I don’t think the superhero pinups would be the thing for that locale (the gallery has taught me that you have to have the right item at the right venue), while I do some ‘fantasy’ art the pinups are the thing I want to do now.
I guess the point is, make what makes you happy, you can do anything else, but you won’t be happy, you won’t like what you make. Who cares if it’s fanart based, or something you think is strange and no one will get it, with a worldwide audience online, there is someone out there who will dig your work, so get it out there. Be yourself.
The other suggestion is, you have to spend at least as much time promoting as you do creating these days. People’s attention spans are short and often they consume your art in a glance, with no need to buy an art print, but they will grab a tee shirt or a mug (or if you are lucky, a bodypillowcase)
You can freeze pancakes, allow them to freeze on a baking sheet in the freezer, then wrap and place in a plastic baggy - only 60 secs in the microwave to re-heat.
If you are out of syrup, you can melt jam in the microwave or a small saucepan
Most store brands of syrup are colored and flavored corn syrup, I’ve found if you use real maple syrup, you use less because of the stronger flavor.
Roll a small pancake around a cooked breakfast sausage for a meal on the go
make a pancake sandwich, try spreading nutella between two layers, or peanut butter and fresh sliced bananas.
For kids, instead of cutting pancake into smaller bites with a knife, it’s much easier to use kitchen shears (scissors) when the pancakes are cold, then reheat pieces in the microwave.
Make easy shapes by using metal or silicon cookie cutters, set in pan and fill half way with batter, spray with non-stick cooking spray first. Go free form/create letters by using a squeeze bottle with a narrow tip. For different colors simply separate batter into different bowls and add food coloring to each one.
When making pancakes, remember if you add fruit or chocolate chips or bacon bits, pour your batter into the hot pan first, and when you are almost ready to flip, add the extras.(if you add extras to batter, while you wait to pour, they will all sink to the bottom of the bowl)
lactose intolerant? Replace milk with soy milk or almond milk, vegan? replace egg and milk with a smashed ripe banana.
For fluffier pancakes, separate the eggs in the recipe, yolks in the batter - egg whites out. Whip the whites until they are fluffy, then fold into the batter, allow to sit for 15 min while prepping your pan for cooking.
Make pouring easier by putting batter into a tall plastic bottle, you can also cap the bottle and place in fridge if you want to finish cooking your pancakes later.
Make pancake bites by pouring batter into a mini-muffin tin, bake at 400degrees for 6-8 min, fill cups 2/3 full, leaving room for batter to expand - oh and spray with non-stick cooking spray before you fill up.
Beat butter until soft and add in sugar gradually until mixture is light and creamy, beat in the egg, and the marmalade.
Sift the flour, and resift with the baking powder, then stir the flour mix into the marmalade mix, if dough is too wet, add more flour. Mine was the consistency of cake batter, holding a shape.
Drop the batter from a teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet, making sure to space between cookies. Bake 8 to 12 minutes until just turning brown at the edges and no longer wet ontop.
Recipe says you'll get 48 2-inch cookies, I got about half that of slightly larger and thicker cookies.
My cookies had more of a cake consistency, not very sweet, and great with tea or coffee. I imagine if the batter were a little more runny you'd have a wider flatter cookie that would be a little more crisp.
