Well, that was intriguing at first, but faded off to an okay, hurry and kill the monster while she monologues.
Great to see Jodi, she mentioned Bobby, she wore plaid, she kicked ass. And almost died. Now Jensen as Dean was hilarious, and there were little nuggets of gold in ‘always the Adios’ (and the Casa Erotica bit a fond nod to Gabriel.) HOWEVER the comedy was out of sync with the rest of the episode, and I’m not certain here what the show was trying to say (if anything) about the notion of purity and sex.
At first I thought we were going somewhere interesting, because Dean was all ready to make his move, then became uncomfortable when the gal asked him to pray with her, and when he found her DVD, he was a complete dork … but plot dictated that ‘Dean break his vow’ to get captured by the monster.
It would have been nice if only a kiss had been enough between the pair because it would have a)exceeded our expectations storywise b)made Dean sympathetic and more in character, (as he’s on a hunt, and he gave up romping with a girl during a hunt last season - showing some much needed maturity - he’s been to Hell, Heaven, Purgatory and back and he’s not 22 anymore).
Writer would have done better to have episode be about this ‘breaking promises’ than its virgin plot, which to date has been you get to be sacrificed to Lillith, or Eve, or punched in the face by Jodi Mills.
And not even a fava beans and Chianti joke from Dean.
The lesson here is that women do inexplicable things this season simply because Dean and Castiel are all that, - not certain if they want to show that Dean and Cas are avidly heterosexual, or that sex always leads to disaster for each of them … anyway,
Really liked the first kinapped girl shown, who turned out looking after herself quite well.
Both myself and daughter saw this as a redux of two episodes, the dragons from season six, and Veritas, another Roman deity who outed Sam as being ‘souless’ so now this fallen deity outs Sam as being unnatural - something already pointed out to Sam in Dog Dean Afternoon.
Sam should have no hope of being ‘normal’ at this point. I really did think Dean might tell Sam about Zeke, but no goes until next week I suppose.
